Color Theory Workshop

Join me for a weekend of color theory and exploration! This workshop will delve deep into key color concepts as they relate to painting. Saturday will be devoted to learning the ins and outs of color mixing through understanding complementary colors and color temperature. We will make charts, color wheels, and practice different layering techniques, as well as learn how to match specific color swatches.

 

Sunday will be geared toward making painting studies that explore different palette and color scheme options, as well as making painting studies that evoke specific emotions or moods.

Supplies and snacks will be included.

Palette Knife Painting

Learn how to let loose and paint with palette knife! We will create several painting studies as we explore impasto style painting and letting go of some control. We will work with a variety of techniques as we layer, mix, and sculpt the paint on our canvases. Students can work in oil or acrylic media.

Drawing Basics

Learn the basics of how to draw or reinforce key principles in this comprehensive drawing workshop. Working with a variety of drawing media, we will explore different drawing techniques such as shape building, using a grid, and shading. Learn how to understand spatial relationships and negative space to interpret what you see and translate it to marks on paper. Supplies and snacks included. $100 per student

Still Life Painting

Next dates to be determined

Learn how to work from still life with traditional alla prima painting techniques and weird, non traditional Leslie techniques. We will paint two still life paintings focusing on building form, understanding light and shadow, and how to interpret what you see in front of you. Learning to work from life leads to better painting when working from photographs and understanding how to circumvent photo distortion in your reference. this is a skill all artists should build regardless of media or style. $60 per student
